Mulki Mohamed Burale, a key figure in the "Waayaha Cusub" music group, has revealed the details of her long-hidden ordeal after being missing for over fifteen years. The group gained prominence in 2007 for songs critical of Ethiopian forces supporting then-Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf. Originating from Eastleigh, Nairobi,' the group, consisting of 11 members, took a bold stand against Al-Shabaab, contributing significantly to Somalia's cultural resistance against the extremist group.
Mulki Mohamed Burale was among the first women to actively participate in the group's songs, embracing a new way of song-making different from the traditional Somali approach. Her disappearance had remained a mystery for 15 years, sparking various rumors, including complex relationships and a love triangle involving another woman affiliated with the group.
In a recent interview, Mulki refuted the rumors of her death, expressing shock at the different versions circulating. "I am well and alive. I am grateful to Allah. A soul does not leave twice," she stated, hoping that people would believe she is alive after this revelation.
Despite being believed dead due to severe illness eleven years ago, Mulki recently resurfaced on TikTok, actively engaging with videos featuring the prominent Waayaha Cusub singer, Falis Abdi. Falis was previously thought to be one of the reasons behind Mulki's reported death.
The person responsible for spreading the false report of Mulki's death and the motives behind it remains unknown.
